ABOUT DAVID ZOLL TRIO
“It all started with oldies radio and a musical family.”
David Zoll grew up on Long Island, NY with a steady diet of doo-wop, Motown and classic R and B from local oldies radio, Willie Nelson, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Everly Brothers from his parents, and Brian Setzer, the Ramones and Black Sabbath from his brother.
Originally a wind player, David, was lucky enough to grow up in a high school arts program that could rival that of some colleges, where pro-players made visits to school jazz band rehearsals, and theatre teachers brought David and other students to workshops, broadway shows, and vocal instructors.
Later on with stints in upstate NY and Florida, and a first serious study of the guitar, he was influenced by everything from the finger-style guitar of Chet Atkins, the classic dub of Lee Perry, and the complete buffoonery of Frank Zappa.
David moved to the Asheville NC area in the summer of 2006, and with the support of his family, friends, and beautiful wife, released his first self-titled EP in the spring of 2011. He is lucky enough to share the stage with some amazing friends and musicians, and can be seen playing throughout the WNC area in solo acoustic settings, and along with his group, The David Zoll Trio. You may also find him in another role he loves: as a sideman with numerous other projects including zydeco group Bayou Diesel, The Grant De Santos Band, and his harmony-laden acoustic duo with friend and fellow musician Tim Marsh.
Music has always been a first love. From the sweet fingerpicking of a steel-string acoustic, to the primal bashing of a fuzz-laden stratacaster, the need to create has always been . The need to sing and write songs has always been. As a band leader, singer, songwriter, or guitarist, David Zoll’s work is well worth the price of admission. Stick around . . . .
