Highland Links to the Community
The Highland staff has been led by the example of our founder, Oscar Wong. A career-long Rotarian and volunteer/officer in a number of charitable organizations, he has always believed in giving back. As a company, we also give back. We are proud to partner with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, Adopt-a-Stream, and Manna Food Bank, and we offer support to countless other organizations in our tasting room and outside the brewery with donations.
For Love of Beer & Mountains
We have teamed up with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in a partnership aimed at raising awareness of the rare and important ecology of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. These mountains draw people to Asheville from all over the world to study their history, admire their physical beauty, and enjoy their natural resources. To retain the quality of life we enjoy at work and at play, we must protect them. Learn more about where we live by joining us on a naturalist-guided seasonal hike, or by visiting the brewery for an fund-raising educational event, created in conjunction with each seasonal beer release.
Spring - Little Hump
Summer - Razor Mountain

River Clean Up
Clean water is an essential ingredient in brewing excellent beer. For this reason Highland staff spends several days a year contributing to the local Adopt-a-Stream program. We have pulled several truckloads of trash and debris from a 3/4 mile section of the Swannanoa River, which we adopted in the fall of 2009.
If you are interested in adopting your own section of river in the Asheville area, contact River Link.
Feeding the Community
When you tour our world-class, regional brewery, please consider a donation to Manna Food Bank. Our tours are offered six days a week (4pm, Mon-Sat) and include tasty samples of all our brews, even the Brewer's Stache small batches, made on the pilot system. Our tours are fun and relaxed. We work hard to ensure that we have the time, the friendly and well-trained staff, and the beer for our guests - we love it! And we hope that in a way, we are paying it forward. As our tours grow (we are adding tour guides and splitting large groups), your small donation will combine with others for a large donation to Manna and a world of difference to local folks in need. Manna is right down the road from the brewery, where Oscar and his daughter Nicole volunteer. Thank you for helping us make a difference when we open our doors to you!
Helping the Community
The Arc of Buncombe County serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families throughout Asheville, Buncombe County and Henderson County through our Advocacy, Augmented Case Management, Assistance to Individuals, and Social Enrichment programs.
Currently we are serving nearly 1,000 individuals and their families. While there are other agencies in the community that provide basic needs assistance, The Arc of Buncombe County is the only organization who’s mission is to exclusively assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
